A Gazipur court today granted a two-day remand for Shafiullah, a leader of the Tabligh Jamaat faction loyal to Maulana Saad Kandhalvi, in connection with a case filed over the killing of three devotees at the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Gazipur issued the remand order at 11:30am.

Shafiullah is the ninth accused in the case, which is being handled by Tongi West Police Station.

Iskander Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, told The Daily Star that the court granted a two-day remand after a seven-day remand had been requested.

Shafiullah was arrested yesterday in Shariatpur by a team from Palang Police Station in the district, with the assistance of an officer from Tongi West Police Station, the OC said.
